About the host
Matthew Miller
Matthew Miller was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, and began his military career in February 2006 when he joined the United States Army as a Forward Observer. He completed two combat deployments — first with the 2/508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, and later with 3/61 Cavalry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division.
On October 3, 2009, Matthew was wounded during the Battle of COP Keating, one of the most intense engagements of Operation Enduring Freedom. For his injuries sustained in combat, he was awarded the Purple Heart and was medically retired in November 2011.
Matthew’s transition out of the military was marked by isolation and the search for community — a journey that fuels his commitment to helping other veterans find the support network he once needed. He is a strong advocate for ending the “22 a day”, working to ensure that no veteran faces their struggles alone and that every warrior has access to connection, purpose, and hope.
Today, Matthew continues his life of service as a full‑time paramedic in Central New York and the active Fire Chief of a volunteer fire department, leading with the same discipline, courage, and sense of duty forged in combat.
He is married to his wife, Stacey, and is the proud father of two children, Abigail and Mason.
