Nurtured and Affirmed: Being Part Of  A Legacy In Service To The Country

Chaplain Karen Meeker speaks about her 20+ years of military service and how she continues to add to the legacy in service to the country as a Colonel who recruits chaplains. She was inspired to join the military, and specifically serve in military ministry, in response to being called by God. Her desire to serve in ministry was nurtured at a young age while growing up in the United Methodist Church, as was her aspiration for serving the country. She talks about how her rural Northeast Pennsylvania community encouraged, affirmed, and supported giving back to the country in service, and how the United Methodist Church, which ordains women, provided her the possibilities to become a minister. Listen in as she describes her journey of military training and her education process to become a minister. She humbly talks about how she became part of a long history of women chaplains dating back to the Civil War, and how she created her own “Firsts” while serving in the 82ndAirborne.

Aside from her continued service in the military, she supports military women ministries and she recently provided expert knowledge at a moral injury conference. Her closing words of encouragement are fulfilling for the mind, body, and spirit to all.Sponsors, Donors, Support Staff
