Andrew Kurka had aspirations to be an Olympic wrestler until an ATV accident paralyzed him when he was 13 years old. But that didn’t stop his competitive spirit. A couple years later, he connected with Challenge Alaska, a chapter of Disabled Sports USA near his hometown and took up alpine skiing. He qualified to represent Team USA at the 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi but an injury derailed that effort. However, his goal of winning a gold medal would not be denied. In 2018, Andrew Kurka won a gold medal in downhill at the Winter Paralympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
