Scout Bassett spent seven years in a government-run orphanage in China after she was abandoned on the side of a street following the loss of her right leg in a chemical fire as an infant. After being adopted and coming to the United States, Scout joined sports as a way to connect with her peers. She began running at the age of 14 and would represent Team USA at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio. She is definitely an athlete to watch during the Tokyo Paralympics next year.
